Sr. Developer, Web

GarageGames is looking for a Sr. Web Developer to join our entrepreneurial and creative team. The developer will be working on our web gaming portal, www.instantaction.com. The ideal candidate is innovative, creative, highly energetic, and has experience with the technology behind great web sites. A passion for development and providing the best experience to a wide and varied audience is a must-have for this role!

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team building scalable web applications
  • Use test-driven development practices to ensure code correctness
  • Document code, track and fix bugs, respond rapidly to emergencies in production environment
  • Work with product group throughout development cycle to ensure quality of end product
Requirements for this position:
  • Expert-level knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, AJAX, and relational databases
  • Strong preference for developers with experience with Scriptaculous, Prototype, or similar JavaScript libraries
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent work experience. Masters degree is a plus
  • Ability to work on-site at the GarageGames office in Eugene, Oregon (preferred) or Portland, Oregon

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience using MVC frameworks

Interactive Designer

  • Envision and implement the design strategy for InstantAction.

Requirements for this position:
  • 2+ years of interactive design experience.
  • Strong conceptual thinking-- both visual and interactive.

  • Driven to help define the look and feel of application based design.
  • Define dynamic and functional aspects of the user experience, applying user-centered design principles.
  • Ensure all designed assets meet IA.com visual standards.
  • Work well under tight deadlines and find creative solutions to limitations encountered during development.
  • Understanding of HTML and basic coding.
  • Fundamental online layout skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash).
  • Mac/Windows platform and MS Office utilities.
  • Good Interface design and user experience design skills.
Beneficial, but not required:
  • Hand coding HTML, CSS (not relying on an IDE ie Dreamweaver).

Game Artist

Responsibilities:
  • Build and UV map game-ready 3D models in 3D Studio Max or Maya
  • Create texture maps in Photoshop
  • Match assets to the technical requirements and style guidelines of a project
  • Work with other artists to streamline the 3D art creation process
Requirements for this position:
  • Ability to translate an image or description into a 3d model
  • Experience in low poly modeling and UV unwrapping
  • Experience in texture painting
  • Ability to learn new art tools and the technical processes of creating art for real-time games
  • Portfolio that demonstrates an understanding of lighting, color, gesture, and other aspects of visual design
  • Experience creating game ready assets (especially for Torque products) highly desirable
  • Rigging and animation experience a plus
  • Programming and/or scripting experience a plus
Game Coder

Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of small and/or large sections of the engine
  • Problem solve with other programmers, artists, and designers to find good solutions
  • Manage own time and task list while responding to the needs of your supervisor
Requirements for this position:
  • Strong C/C++ coder
  • Experience with a game engine (Torque experience a plus)
  • Description of completed game projects (and role on projects) and/or demo work required
  • Familiarity with networking, physics, collision, animation, rendering, 3d math, desirable
  • Ability to work with others and communicate on a team is a must
Game Producer

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a small team (generally 2-6 people) of programmers, artists, and designers
  • Prioritize features, working with lead designer, lead artist and lead programmer on the team
  • Group features and bug fixes into milestones and manage scheduling and work assignment
  • Triage and assign bugs to team members
  • Write documents for internal team communication and external communication to other company divisions (marketing, web, etc)
  • Coordinate with other company divisions on issues relating to the game product
  • Manage communication between non-company contacts (press, etc) and the core game team
Requirements for this position:
  • Game programming, art, design, or management experience on at least 1 shipping game is strongly preferred
Sr. Developer, Backend

GarageGames is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer with back-end infrastructure experience to join our entrepreneurial and creative team. The developer will be working on our web gaming portal, www.instantaction.com. Release Manager

The Release Manager's primary role is to facilitate production launches of the InstantAction website based on the Major and Minor release schedules, and facilitate resolution of production issues.

The Release Manager is accountable for the successful delivery of approved scope and schedule, with timely communications to stakeholders of status, issues, and changes from start to finish.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management for major and minor release schedules
  • Primary contact for release and production issue escalation
  • Release ticket management for site maintenance and enhancements, including requester follow up on status
  • Clear, timely communications - weekly status reports, risks, issues, changes
  • Escalation management for production site issues
  • Build request process management
  • Facilitate decision making and change control

Requirements for this position:
  • 2-5 years of website release management experience
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong organizational, communication, and conflict management skills
  • Web technology familiarity - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, JavaScript
  • PMI certification - CAPM minimum, PMP desired

Financial Analyst

Track and analyze capital projects and support management with financial reports and budgeting.

Responsibilities:

  • Hold capital review board meetings for approval of new projects and ongoing status of projects.
  • Analysis of capital asset impairment.
  • Development and analysis of meaningful reports that highlight operational results, forecasts and business plans in support of internal business unit management.
  • Assist CFO with budget development and external financial reporting.
  • Identify and analyze operational problems and recommend effective solutions.
Requirements for this position:
  • Bachelor degree, at minimum, in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Experience in tracking and financial reporting of capital projects.
  • Financial reporting experience in support of internal business units.
  • Thorough understanding of financial statements.
  • Experience developing budgets.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships across functional areas and business units.
  • Responsible for meeting strict internal and external timelines.
Optional, but not required:
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise.
